Buñuelos Mexicanos

Salam 'Alaik!

I was googling some recipes on the Internet, and I stumbled across a Mexican treat called Buñuelos.  Buñuelos or Mexican fritters are basically fried dough, and they taste really good. The texture of Buñuelos is kinda like scones and they actually even taste like scones, in my opinion. But we deep fried them instead of baking. Deep-fried scones. I guess. Okay.

So, you may have some hard time pronouncing Buñuelos, but they are incredibly easy to make. Macam buat cekodok la kot. But easier. These Mexican delicacy is suitable for breakfast, supper, tea time, basically every time of the day.

INGREDIENTS (24 servings):

4 cups of flour
1 tspn of baking powder
1 tspn of salt
1/2 cup of caster sugar
1/2 tspn of cinnamon
2 eggs
1 cup of milk
4 tbsp of butter (melted)
Cinnamon-sugar mixture

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and    cinnamon. In smaller bowl, beat eggs and milk. Add this gradually, beating, to flour mixture.
  2. Add the melted butter, beat.
  3. Place dough on floured surface and knead til silky and elastic.
  4. Roll into balls or ropes, and flatten with the palm of your hand.
  5. Deep fry in hot oil, til golden.
  6. Drain on paper towel before rolling them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

It should look like this:

But mine turned out like this:

I could only managed to save three bunuelos from my family for photographing.

If you're not a fan of cinnamon, you could replace it with strawberry jam or chocolate sauce or whatever you love to have them with.

Enjoy your bunuelos, folks!

Crafting with Twine!

Salam 'Alaik!

This is the second post of the day. You can tell how bored I am at home. Therefore, I'm getting a bit creative with - TWINE! Twine is currently my secret obsession and I love it so much. My room is full with twine crafts. When I said full, I don't actually mean it..I'm just exaggerating.

I'm gonna show you some of the things that I've hacked with twine. Maybe you'll be inspire to decorate your room or your crib or your sleeping suite or whatever you call them.

1. Twine-wrapped Monogram Letter

I really love this one. It's really simple and cute, but it takes patience and time to wrapped it. I stuck this to my bedroom door and it's looks ah-mazing! Click here for tutorial!

2. Yarn Book Cover

I made this recipes book by myself by saddle stitch binding it with thread and just covered it with twine. It also takes time and you'll get a bit messy with the glue but it's totally worth it. Click here for tutorial to make the book.

3. Twine-Covered Jar Lid

This is actually similar to the book cover. All you need is a jar (I used Prego jar, if you don't have a jar around your house, you could find one in Ikea, they sell pretty jars.), fabric tapes to wrap around the edges, PVA glue and of course, twine!

Smokey watched me taking pictures and decide to join and be the model before she took off out of the window. Cheeky cat.

I'm a pastry chef.

Salam'Alaik!

I just finished making something. Something that's really good. Really gooey. Chewy. Fresh. And definitely full of great taste. It's PECAN CHOCOLATE CHIPS COOKIES! This recipe is actually called Big Fat Chewy Chocolate Chips Cookies ,but I gave it a little twist and it turned out really good. REALLY GOOD. My mom said it is better than Famous Amos. I might as well be a pastry chef. XD

My mom is helping me with these cookies photoshoot session.

Look at the gooey-ness of this cookie. I'm dying.

Look at the lovely cracks and the pecans. And the chocolate chips.

This great cookie is super duper crazy insanely easy to make. Just simply follow the recipe provided below and voila! A bunch of homemade cookies is all yours to enjoy!

You could always roast the chopped pecans first. But I was too lazy, so let just leave it there.

Indulge the goodness of the cookies by dunking it in milk or just eat it like you usually do while watching Oggy and the Cockroaches. Or that was just me.

Old Stuff

Salam 'Alaik!

I'm very excited about tonight's post. I was cleaning around my room and found some old stuff that I've been keeping long time ago. Good old memories came playing in my head so I thought why not share it with the rest of the world. Here we go!

Back in 2003, ( I was 8 years old) my dad bought these classic story books when he was attending a 2 weeks course in Canada for me and my siblings. They are still in a good condition! It's been almost 10 years.

This worn out t-shirt is probably my favourite piece of clothing I have in my wardrobe. This shirt has witnessed many events that occured in my life. My mom bought 4 of this t-shirt for me and my siblings when she went to a Chocolate Festival back in 2007. I was 12. And she bought these for the same adult size, L. You would probably thinking how on earth could this shirt fit me. It couldn't. I remembered that the shirt almost reached my knees and the sleeves were on my elbow. Only for these past few years that this shirt fit me perfectly. For those who are wondering what is written on the shirt, it says " I SAW CHOCOLATE, I THOUGHT OF YOU"  How sweet.

These were my spectacles collection. (Ahaks.) There's one missing though, my first spec. I don't really remembered when did I actually owned these two specs but it was long time ago. I started wearing glasses when I was 9 years old. This shows that I love reading.. or always on the computer...playing dressup games..

If I had to choose an all-time favourite book, I'd say these Naughty Amelia Jane series by Enid Blyton. I had these when I was 9 years old. They were the first English 'novel' that I've read.

This was the only medal I've won when I was in primary school. (I'm just suck at sport) But hey, I won the first place. I was 11 years old.

This was a drawing that I did when I was 12. It was called, 'The Desk of An Artist". I drew the roses because I thought it would add to the dramatic-ness. I remembered thinking that this is similar to the work of a professional artist. What I was thinking...

So that's that.

Thoughts.

Assalamualaykum!

Throughout my life, I've always been fascinated by things that I enjoy doing and found them worth the time spending. From reading to blogging to making plushies, DIYs projects, painting and playing with my cats and loads of other stuff as well. But the only thing that I consider giving me the ultimate pleasure and satisfaction is drawing.

Drawing is always something that has interested me since I was a little kid but I was no good at that time. I remembered throughout my primary school years, getting an A in art class was very hard. I always got B and sometimes C.

I never took it seriously back then, my passion in drawing. It only started when I was 14 years old when a very dear friend of mine, Saidatul Khairunnisa' gave me a sketchbook as a farewell gift. Not sure what to do with it, I began to scribble and doodle around the blank pages and the outcome I thought was pretty amazing at that time. I began to develop my love towards drawing. So, I searched for tutorials on YouTube on how to draw realistically. And Alhamdulillah, both of my parents were being very supportive. They bought me all the materials I need, the tutorial books and stuff. Drawing became part of my life ever since.

Some of my early portraits.

I draw a lot of things like buildings, animals, and scenery. But personally, I love drawing expressive portraits of people because they are alive and a face always shows a lot of emotions. It is more enjoyable drawing portraits because what you're drawing has a personality and so many feelings and you are actually capturing  more than just an image. The unique physical features of a human being is what fascinate me the most. How the cheekbone, the nose, the skin texture, the eyes of one's individual differs from one another. At the same time, I am able to appreciate the diversity and variations of God's most wonderful creations.

One of the elements that keeps me drawing is the blank page of a piece of paper. How it eventually transform into something that one's can appreciate and just stared at it. For me, the blankness of the paper represents the excitement and joy of drawing. The possibilities are endless and you are in control. It also amazes me how I can get something to look exactly like a real object. Like how I am able to draw the overlapping shadows, the textures of the fabric, the different tones of shades and shadows, the wrinkles and the tiny fine lines on the paper. It gets me to look closer at things and observe deeper. Drawing for me is also about making an awful lot of mistakes and satisfaction of creating something beautiful from the mistakes. There will always be "Damn, that's not what I wanted" and there's certainly "Wow, this is going somewhere". But in the end, when a drawing clicks - it is a great feeling. Generally, it takes a dozen of damns before you get to a wow.I also love how my emotion and mind indulge in the wonderful moment of drawing. It's like I'm in a completely different world.

After some time learning, these are some of the results.

For me, drawing is more than just a hobby. Drawing is a medium for me to express what I feel inside of me as I am not the kind of person that can talk to people about my feelings.  I have dedicated my life to drawing. For this reason, with the right support, I am hoping that I can go further. Insha-Allah.
